Fountain & Tree

Something fun was the completely custom designed and built controller that runs a lighted fountain in the summer, and a Christmas Tree during the holidays.

Both functions are driven by a DMX controller.  For the fountain, it runs the color changing led lights as well as controlling the pump speeds for the water height.  Also integrated into the fountain control, is a wind speed gauge on the roof of the building that trims the pump speeds to lower the fountain height, minimizing water usage by keeping it from being carried out of the fountain.

During the holidays, the DMX controller then drives 8 PWM outputs on the plc. Those outputs control 8 solid state relays that control the lights on a 40 foot Christmas tree.  The entire project is remotely accessible, allowing scheduling changes, updating the lighting scenes, starting and stopping, and troubleshooting. It also sends via email daily status reports to track water and power usage and detect problems.
